Homebirth is very safe if you’re healthy, low-risk, and have no preexisting conditions, such as diabetes requiring insulin management or asthma requiring daily medication.
Most pregnancies are low-risk and include women of advanced maternal age and vaginal birth after one previous c-section.
Every birth will have two midwives in attendance.
We also encourage women to have a doula attend their birth to help support them before, during, and after labor.
Midwives are passionate about safe care and birth for you and your baby.
Every planned homebirth includes an emergency backup care plan, which outlines the route to the closest hospital.
Although complications are rare for low-risk women, we bring equipment, such as IV’s, oxygen, medications, and resuscitation equipment.
Most importantly, we don’t push the limits.
We practice conservatively so that we can give you the best chance at a vaginal birth, whether that takes place at home or in the hospital.
Should your journey take you to the hospital, we will accompany you to continue to offer support, navigate the medical system, and ensure continuity of care.
We are proud to have built and maintained relationships with hospital physicians in the San Antonio area.
We’ll be there for you no matter what!
That’s when our team shines!
You’ll still have two midwives attending and assisting your birth.
As you get closer to 37 weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to talk to all of the midwives that will potentially attend your birth.
(And even our backup midwives have back-ups!)
Each year, we intentionally scale back on-call services during the month of December to focus on our families and to serve the people and causes close to our hearts.
We resume full on-call care in January.
One of the beautiful things about planned home birth is that you have the freedom to move your body, eat and drink as you please, and have individualized support, all of which have been proven to enhance the natural labor and birth experience.
If you want to eat some tacos, you can!
If you want to try a different position, you can!
Laboring in water can be a tremendous relief during labor as well.
As long as it doesn’t risk you or your baby’s health, we’ll be there to help accommodate what you feel is best at that moment.
We encourage all clients to take childbirth classes to educate themselves on what is happening to their bodies, how to move their bodies, and how to cope with the intensity and sensations they experience.
Life can sometimes be messy, and birth is no exception!
However, in preparation for your planned home birth, you’ll be provided with a list of items you can get to protect the area you will be birthing in.
After your baby is born and you’re all tucked into bed, we’ll leave your space as clean as we found it!
We welcome anybody and everybody to be present during the birthing experience—including children! As a precaution though, we ask that children have a designated caretaker, so if they need support or you end up requiring hospital-level care, somebody is looking out for them while we look out for you.
Our priority is to ensure your birthing experience is smooth sailing. We ask that anybody planning to be present maintains a calm, supportive environment. If somebody needs to sit it out, we’ll empower you to advocate for your needs.
You deserve a positive birthing environment!
